Avoiding Deception: Identifying Red Flags in Astrology Practices

In the age of information, astrology has experienced a resurgence, with more people than ever exploring the mystical world of celestial influences on our lives. However, with this surge in interest comes a flood of self-proclaimed astrologers, and not all of them have the best intentions or accuracy in mind. As someone deeply invested in the healing possibilities of astrology, it's disheartening to witness the spread of misinformation. To help you make informed choices when seeking astrological guidance, I've compiled a list of red flags to be wary of when following, endorsing, or paying for an astrologer's services.

News flash:

Astrologers are NOT psychics, nor should they claim to be

  1. Exclusively Focusing on Sun Signs: One of the telltale signs of an inexperienced astrologer is an exclusive focus on sun signs. Astrology is a complex and nuanced system that involves much more than just your sun sign. A competent astrologer considers the entire birth chart, including the moon, rising sign, and planetary placements, for a comprehensive understanding.

  2. Claiming Psychic Abilities or Future Predictions: Astrology is not a tool for predicting the future or tapping into psychic abilities. While astrologers can provide insights and guidance based on your birth chart, anyone claiming to foresee specific future events or possess psychic powers may lack a grounded understanding of the discipline.

  3. Making Hurtful or Prejudiced Claims: Astrology should be a tool for understanding and self-reflection, not a means to perpetuate prejudice or make hurtful claims about specific zodiac signs. If an astrologer expresses bias or negativity towards any sign, it may indicate personal grudges rather than a genuine commitment to helping others.

  4. Lack of Transparency in Methodology: A credible astrologer should be able to articulate the house system they use and explain why. The choice of a house system significantly influences the interpretation of a birth chart, and transparency in methodology is crucial for building trust between the astrologer and the client.

  5. Overreliance on Software for Analysis: While astrologers often use software for chart calculations, the analysis of the chart itself should be done manually. Relying solely on automated interpretations may result in a superficial understanding of the complexities within a birth chart.

  6. One-Size-Fits-All Approach: Beware of astrologers who claim to do it all without specializing in specific areas. A credible astrologer typically has specific areas of expertise, focusing on aspects like career, relationships, or predictive readings. Specialization allows for a deeper understanding and more accurate insights.

As astrology gains popularity, it's essential to navigate the cosmos with discernment. By being aware of these red flags, you can make informed choices when seeking the guidance of an astrologer. Remember that astrology, when practiced with integrity, has the potential to offer valuable insights and contribute to personal growth. Choose an astrologer who values transparency, respects the intricacies of the craft, and is committed to fostering a positive and empowering experience for their clients.

Note: There are many astrologers who also claim to be psychic. I do not have the knowledge to tell you how to discern real psychics, I encourage you to do the research. Anyone who studies or practices astrology is not predisposed to have psychic abilities, no matter how intuitive they are. That said, there are professionals out there who possess both talents but they are few and far between.
